The Hindu College Debating Society Premchand Memorial International Parliamentary Debate | 2012
The Premchand Memorial Debate has been a major attraction of the Delhi University calendar for several years. In 2005 the debate was converted to an International Parliamentary Format based on Cambridge style 2 on 2 debating. It was the first debate in Delhi University to become an international event. 2011 The 8th Premchand Memorial Debate was won by Ramjas college. Team members were Siddhartha Thyagarajan and Karandeep ‘Azaan’ Khanna. 2009/10 The 7th Premchand Memorial Debate was held between 3-6 November 2009 in collaboration with Educomp. 36 teams participated in the event. Hansraj College, Delhi and the National Law School, Bangalore debated the motion “medical students should undergo mandatory rural internship” in the finals. The team comprising of Manav Kumar and Abhimanyu George from National Law School won the tournament.  Hindustan Times was the official media partner for the event. 2008 The 6th Premchand Memorial Debate was held between 1-4 December 2008, in partnership with Oxfam (India) on the tournament-wide theme of Climate Change. 24 teams participated in the tournament including a team from Nanyang Technology University, Singapore. The two teams from Ramjas College, Delhi faced off in the final on the motion: “This house prefers adaptation over mitigation in dealing with climate change”. The team of Prithvi Rohan Kapoor and Vishwajoy Mukherjee (Ramjas College, Delhi) won the tournament. The finals were telecast live on NDTV Metro Nation. The Indian Express was the official print media partner for the event. 2007 The 5th Premchand Memorial Parliamentary Debate was held in collaboration with the Punj Lloyd Group. 20 teams participated in the event. The tournament was won by the team of Harsh Malhotra and Kartik Mishra from Ramjas College, Delhi. The finals were telecast live on NDTV Metro Nation. The Times of India was the official print media partner for the event. 2006 The 4th Premchand Memorial Parliamentary Debate was held in collaboration with Deakin University, Australia which also entered a team and adjudicators in the tournament. 20 teams participated. The tournament was won by Sri Venkateswara College, Delhi. The Times of India was the official media partner for the event. 2005 The 3rd Premchand Memorial Debate became the first debate in Delhi University to become an international event. The  team of Aniruddha Sen and Aditya Sudarshan from NLS, Bangalore beat the team from the University of Queensland in the finals to win the tournament.
