The English Debating Society of Hindu College, known simply as “DebSoc” is arguably the most active wing of the College’s extra curricular calendar. In a college like Hindu, that certainly takes some doing!<\/p>\n

We organize four major debates every year – The Ashok Priyadarshi Memorial Freshers’ Conventional Debate, The Tantra Extemporary Debate, The NV Thadani Memorial Invitational Parliamentary Debate and of course, our flagship event The Premchand Memorial International Parliamentary Debate.<\/p>\n

Our DebSoc has a long and illustrious history, during the course of which it has consistently produced and nurtured quality debaters who have not only won numerous national and international debate competitions but have gone on to careers in the fields of television broadcasting, print journalism, academics, film-making and other forms of communication. Furthermore, the DebSoc directly traces its lineage to the unique institution of the Hindu College Parliament, which served as an important platform during India’s freedom struggle and was addressed by such luminaries as Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, Maulana Azad and MA Jinnah.
